The Education Programme at the A. M. Qattan Foundation works to develop alternative teaching and learning practices in Palestine, based on an understanding of learning as an act and a practice rather than instruction alone, and on investing in teachers and students as participants able to contribute to change within their schools and communities. The Programme draws on methodologies developed over years of field practice, and its work is organised across three strands:
The Teacher and Facilitator Capacity-Building Strand includes training pathways and structured workshops available to individual teachers and to schools wishing to develop community initiatives, alongside teachers' forums that allow for the exchange of experience and shared reflection on educational practice.
The Non-Traditional Learning Tools Strand draws on play, exploration and movement, and encourages dialogue and the tools of deconstruction and critical thinking, within a methodology built on three steps: observation, then research and enquiry, then arrival at understanding. This strand is reflected in work across the fields of science, technology, social sciences and the arts in education and in the STEAM methodology (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and the Arts), embodied in the STEAM Fab Lab at the Qattan Centre for the Child in Ramallah, established in 2022.
The Early Childhood and Student Capacity-Building Strand is concerned with the early years of learning, working to develop children's curiosity, creative abilities, and skills, contributing to the foundation for their later participation in their schools and communities.
The Education Programme works in partnership with schools and community institutions and announces its available opportunities via the Foundation's website and its social media channels.
